The generic GMail trap

Category: MusingsBill Mason @ 12:42 am

I’ve learned something from having a fairly generically named GMail address. And by generic, I mean someone uncomplicated like “jdoe” for example. Meanwhile, what I’ve learned is: a lot of people don’t know their friends’ email address. Or sometimes, don’t know their own!

I don’t use my GMail for my day-to-day email, or for much of anything except a conduit to using GTalk, I suppose. But besides tons of spam, I receive genuine, misaddressed email of all sorts. Order receipts, newsletters, pizza order confirmations, etc.

So I’m going to start recording it for posterity, because why not?

Today’s entry is an ecard from “Sweetie” (really). I don’t want to view the actual ecard. I don’t want to trash privacy completely. I’ll just note to Sweetie that wherever you are, your sweetness misfired. Hopefully it works out.

Dreams in the Forest

Category: MusingsBill Mason @ 8:46 am

Sometimes it really bothers me that I never remember my dreams.

And by never, I mean almost never. But I almost never do. And I don’t mean remember for a short time and then the memory slips away because I didn’t immediately write it down or something. I mean I remember even having a dream (or nightmare) three or four times a year, maximum.

This morning, the alarm clock woke me up hard. I felt like I was in a deep sleep. And for some reason I felt like a dream was this close in hand, and suddenly I was thrust away from it. I felt an odd sense of loss.

Or maybe that wasn’t the case at all. Maybe I just woke up hard on a Monday morning. Still, I wish I could remember. If dreams occur but you never remember them, did they really happen?
